Online poker tournaments online are very much the same as those you may have played in your local casino, or seen being played on TV. You will pay a fixed entry fee to play in return for receiving a set number of chips. The winner is usually determined by the player who ends up with all the chips. Players are eliminated when they have lost all of their chips, in some tournaments players can re-buy or top up during the tournament, thus being able to get more chips.

The top finishing players in each tournament get the prize money, often in larger tournaments it is common to see 40 or 50 players finishing in the prize money.

Whereas in a cash game the size of the blind is fixed, in tournaments the blind increases as the tournament progresses, the longer a tournament lasts, the higher the blind level will become. Tournaments are split into levels and the blinds increase as each level is reached. The amount of time taken to reach each level varies by tournament.

Circuspoker offers tournaments with varying level lengths, normal (where blinds increase every 8 minutes), speed (3 minutes) and turbo (1 minute). In certain events and Grand Finals the level speed is slowed to every 15 minutes.

There are also lots of Re-buy / Add-on tournaments available, where players can add more chips at various stages of the tournament, usually before the first break in levels. Furthermore Circuspoker offers satellite tournaments where players get a chance to qualify for larger tournaments for a smaller entry fee. For example a player might enter a $5 satellite to a $50 tournament, win the satellite and get a $5 entry into a $50 tournament – great value for money!
